Thyroid Ultrasound and Ultrasound Guided Thyroid Biopsy

The thyroid ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technology that permits the exploration without the use of radiation. It is painless and can be done in the office. A plastic probe sweeps the skin surface to look at the thyroid gland. The probe emits ultrasound waves that penetrate the skin and then return to the probe as they encounter other tissues. A computer will analyze these return sounds (echoes) and will ultimately produce a picture of the thyroid. The doctor can use the ultrasound to guide a needle inside a thyroid nodule and increase the accuracy of the thyroid biopsy. Thyroid ultrasound has revolutionized thyroid nodule diagnoses and treatments. It is also used to monitor size of nodules.

Shared medical appointments offers an innovative, interactive approach to healthcare that brings patients with common needs together with one or more healthcare providers. While an individual appointment typically lasts 30 minutes, a shared appointment is 90 to 120 minutes long, allowing participants to spend more time with the healthcare team and allows people with similar medical issues to interact and learn from one another.
